Black Light Theatre Prague

Posted by

A black light theatre is a special form of theatre. In a dark room with a black background, UV light produces light that is invisible to humans. These UV rays make bright objects shine (like white clothes), other things are not visible. This creates amazing effects, such as objects appearing to float in space. Things can suddenly appear and disappear (by switching on or off UV lamps).

A very good black light theatre is the “Black Light Theatre Srnec” in the centre of Prague, only 200 meters away from Wenceslas Square Prague. It was founded in 1961 under socialism. It was already well known before the fall of communism, the theatre went around the world and had performances on all continents. We recommend every tourist in Prague to visit a performance in the Black Light Theatre.

Most performances at the Black Light Theatre Srnec Prague take about 90 minutes with a break. As a rule, there is a performance every evening at 8 pm.

On the website where you can buy tickets you can also find a map with the exact location of the Schwarzlichttheater Srnec. A ticket costs around 25 euros for adults and a few euros less for children. By the way, children are usually totally enthusiastic about the black light theatre (from about 3 years).

Where exactly is the Black Light Theatre Prague?

You can find the theatre behind the McDonald’s is the famous street “Na Prikope” in downtown Prague. If you go up Wenceslas Square you turn right at the end (before the New Yorker shop). The McDonald’s is after 100 meters on the right side.
