A marionette is a doll made up of very flexible limbs. So marionette theatre is a special form of puppet theatre. The puppets, mostly made of wood, are moved invisibly in the background by people over threads.
A very famous puppet theatre is located in Prague in the centre of the city. There are performances here several times a week. It is one of the best puppet theatres in Europe, worth seeing for adults and children. The Prague Puppet Theatre is particularly famous for the performance of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”.
A visit to a performance of Don Giovanni (usually at 8 pm in the evening) costs a good 20 euros for adults and a little less than 20 euros for children. We think that as a tourist in Prague you should visit the puppet theatre once. It is an unforgettable experience and worth the entrance fee. As the performances are often sold out, one should book in advance on the internet. Tickets for the Prague Marionette Theatre
There are several other performances at the National Puppet Theatre in Prague. However, we recommend Don Giovanni, an opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is set in Prague.
Location and approach: The best way to get to the puppet theatre is on foot or by public transport. It is only 100 meters away from the central square of the old town “Altstädter Ring”.
