Prague Smichov (district)

Posted by

Smichov is a district of Prague, seen from the Old Town on the other side of the Vltava River. Much more often tourists on this side of the river visit the more northern and centrally located district of Lesser Town with Prague Castle and other important sights. Prague-Smichov is a relatively normal district with rather few tourists. There are still inexpensive Czech restaurants and also some sights. The fastest way to get to Smichov is by metro (subway), you get off at the station “Andel” and you are in the middle of the Prague district Smichov.

Best seller: Boat tour Prague with dinner (buffet)

It is perhaps the most popular tour in Prague. A 3-hour boat trip in the evening on the Vltava River with great buffet dinner included. Great modern ship with lots of glass for best view, open top deck for photography, good food, very good reviews from participants. Price under 50 euros per person, window seat only a few euros more. Our recommendation for a cruise on the Vltava River.

Sights in Smichov

Staropramen Brewery: Large parts of Smichov are the buildings of the gigantic Staropramen Brewery. The brewery has a visitor center. Most tourists book a tour of the Staropramen Brewery on the Internet. After the informative tour of the brewery (we liked it very much), you can taste the beer for free. You can book the brewery tour with one beer, with tasting of 4 different beers (option with tasting) or additionally with a typical Czech meal (tasted good to us). >>>> Link to booking and more info

Model railroad Smichov: Also many foreign tourists of the Prague-Smichov district visit the gigantic model railroad almost directly at the metro station Andel. For about 10 euros entrance fee you can see one of the largest model railroads in the world. The sight is called Kingdom of the “Railway Model Railway Prague” or English simply “Kingdom Railway Prague” (Czech: Kralovstvi Zeleznic). More than 500 m² model railroad with more than 100 trains. Great for kids and adults. Again, we recommend booking in advance on the Internet: >>>> More info and booking on this link.

Our recommendation Prague in the evening medieval dinner: 5-course menu, drinks without limit (including alcohol beer, wine), great atmosphere, show, etc. only 49 euros: More info and booking

How to get to Smichov: By public transport, it is best to take line B of the Prague Metro (yellow line on the metro map) to the “Andel” stop in Smichov. In the city center, line B stops, for example, at Wenceslas Square (Mustek station).
