The city is not too far from the German border, the shopping center Forum is open even on Sunday. There is a cable car from the shopping center to a nearby castle.

What restaurants and cafes are in the shopping center Forum?
We especially liked the food court in the shopping center, mainly because of the reasonable prices. There is a food court with several restaurants (mostly self-service).
We enjoyed the sushi restaurant Ahawa Running Shusi very much. It is an all-you-can-eat place with sushis from the treadmill. There are two prices. At noon and night until 5 p.m., the meal (including sides, fruit, dessert, etc.) costs 228 Czech crowns (about 8.70 euros), and just over 10 euros in the evening. In addition, there are drinks such as Coke for about 1 euro. (As of June 2017 prices)
If you like hearty Czech cuisine, you can eat very inexpensively at the “Smak Ceske Kuchyne” right next door. In the self-service restaurant in the food court of the Forum shopping center in Usti nad Labem, a roast pork with dumplings and cabbage costs not much more than the equivalent of 3 euros. In addition to the roast pork classic, there are also schnitzel, chicken and much more.
The “Gyros & Grill” and the Pizzeria Michelangelo also taste good. The pizzas are very reasonably priced. In addition, there is a vegetarian restaurant, cafes and ice-cream thieves (ice-cream in scoops and soft ice-cream). There is also a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken), the Mc Donalds is outside the Forum shopping center (just under 100 meters away).
Our impression of Forum Usti nad Labem including prices
It is a modern shopping center, which is built similar to the new shopping centers in Germany. For such a small city as Usti nad Labem, it is a big shopping center. It is open every day, including Sundays, with long opening hours.
The prices in the stores with clothing and shoes are, according to our impression, on average a bit cheaper than in Germany. The supermarket Billa is, according to our feeling, especially with fresh products (bread. pastries, fruits and vegetables) quite cheap. Outstandingly cheap is the gastronomy in the Forum in Usti nad Labem. This is also true for other services in the Czech Republic. If you go to Usti nad Labem, you can also go to the hairdresser or visit a nail salon at a reasonable price. The cinema in the Forum is also cheaper than cinemas in Germany. Many movies in the cinema in the Czech Republic are in English with Czech subtitles.
How to get to the Forum Shopping Center
The shopping center is in the middle of the city of Aussig (Usti), actually it is the center. It is right next to the central church. The main train station is 5 minutes walk away. There is parking on the roof of the center, as well as in the surrounding area.
Opening hours Forum Usti nad Labem
The shopping center is also open on Sunday. Then, especially many customers from Germany come, because in Saxony, according to the law on store closing, the stores are closed. The opening hours of most stores is from 9 am to 9 pm, no matter if weekday, Saturday or Sunday. The Billa supermarket and the DM drugstore already open at 8 am. Some stores (like the restaurants or the cinema) may have other opening hours.
Cable car to the castle
From the roof on the 2nd floor of the Forum shopping center, a cable car descends to a chateau called Vetruse (Zamecek Vetruse) on a hill on the other side of the Labe River across from downtown Usti nad Labem. The short ride (only a few hundred meters) is worth it just for the view.
The fare for the cable car from Aussig on the Elbe is very cheap. All persons over 6 years, whether child, adult or senior, pay 18 crowns (about 70 cents) one way. Children under 6 are free. There is a slightly cheaper return ticket (34 Czech crowns). All prices for the train to the castle as of June 2017.
Opening hours: Cable car operating hours are 8am to 10pm in summer and 9am to 8pm in winter. As far as we know, the cable car does not run on Mondays all year round (day off).
